Pure Xylene
The term xylene refers to the mixture of three isomeric compounds derived from benzene.
In the case of inclusion in Canadas Balsam, used combined with high Alcohol concentrations, in order to dehydrate the specimens (or genitalia) before they are placed into this balsam.
It is the only liquid that can dissolve Canada Balsam fir gum (in the case of old preparations on microscope slides for example) also used to clean the tools you use in preparation, dissolving the remaining resin parts.
